Introduction
There is immense discrimination in the workforce of the present times. The discrimination is faced by anyone who is a minority, i.e., whether they are gender, sexual, ethnic or a racial minority. There can be different forms of discrimination, such as not hiring women or transgenders into the workforce, or allowing sexual harassment in the workplace to go on without any action being taken. One of the key arguments in many cases, is the loss of profit it brings to the company.
In the following report, the arguments that are being made by various stakeholders, on the issue of whether pregnant women should be considered for promotion in the workplace, especially to managerial positions is being considered. The arguments made by the stakeholders is considered and are analysed thoroughly. The report also looks at the impact that assignment has on the individual and their opinions on the topic. It looks at what could be done in order to change the individual’s view as well.
Key Arguments
There are many stakeholders that need to be considered for the following. Among the stakeholders are, the female employees who are pregnant, the employees who are married or wish to become pregnant, the management and the board of directors. They are the ones that will stand to gain or lose the most from the arguments that have been made in the following sections (Rojjanasirat and Sousa, 2010). Thus, it is important in order to identify the stakeholders, before looking at the arguments that need to be made by them.
Female Employees who are pregnant
At a given time, there are many employees who are pregnant. There are many rules and regulations in various countries that look at maternity leave. In many countries, it would be considered discrimination if the organization refused to consider women who are pregnant for positions in the managerial posts. The main argument that could be made in their favour is that women who are pregnant are still employees, and just because they would be on maternity leave (which can be from 0 months such as in the United States of America, to 6 months in countries like India), they should not be made to feel redundant in the organization (Sandberg, 2013).
