Question 1
Nunavut is the biggest region of Canada. But the geographic location makes it one of the most vulnerable regions of Canada. It experiences prolonged dark season with bitterly cold weather and extensively windy climates. These aspects adversely af
fect the economic conditions of that particular region. However, it is evident to note that these Arctic regions are significant producers of oil and natural gases. Geological Survey of US estimates that these Arctic regions are capable of producing more than 150 billion barrels of crude oil. This is an economic significance of Canada. Another point that is worth mentioning is the political location of Nunavut. Even though it is the border area of Canada still it is responsible for the contribution of near about two million dollars in Canada's GDP. With profound statistical data it is clear that Nunavut contributes about 9% growth rate of the economy. Being rich in natural resources it happens to be an extensive economic significant region of Canada. Also it lies in the territorial north as Canada's last frontier but this basic aspect do not barriers the significance that these region bears to the rest of the world. From the economic point of view this region also functions mining as one of the resource-based industry (Young & Mathews, 2017). Further the extreme climatic conditions have indulged people in resorting measures that are useful in fishing industry.
The people of the Nunavut consider the northern frontier as their homeland and support their culture ethnicity language to flourish. However, they do not want the exploitation of their homelands and hence there are numerous protests when Muskrat falls hydroelectric project was introduced. They have profound and strong bond with the nature.
The people of homeland take care about the sustainability of the natural resources in these regions. As we have mentioned above that these regions are a major source of natural resources and mega projects are built to exploit and extract these natural resources. But the population of the northern frontiers which has a complex and diverse cultures depends on these natural resources as the main source of their economy. However they depend on indigenous lifestyle in spite of the availability of such a large amount of natural resources. Moreover they are not ready to exploit the available natural resources in this region. They are concerned about the political and the economic effects of the exploitation that will affect their native place. The government and the authorities are thinking the other way around whose main motive is to attend development. These development goals brought by the northern frontiers are invasive in the terms that they are dodging bust and boom cycles of the megaprojects (Barber, L. (2018). Therefore the aspects that are worth mentioning here is that the northern frontiers is used as the connection between the communities across the national borders however these regions face the constraints of supplying the natural resources to the southern world.
Question 2
Atlantic Provinces Economic Council came up with various projects among which numerous were mega projects also. Statistic shows more than hundred projects where upheld by Atlantic Provinces Economic Councils worth 40 million dollars. There is no doubt that these projects are going to inject billions of dollars in the economy and make these provinces financially and economically strong. Further these megaprojects are equally contributing towards technological advancement in these areas and thereby enhanced the technological dependencies. That was again responsible for inducing political aspects in these regions. The advantages lies on the fact that these regions are endowed with natural resources that reduces the cost of production and makes business expansion profitable (Mitchell, Nelson & Nyland, 2021). . Which is another factor that makes the mega projects a successful one.
According to the new records the government is planning to create or trade corridor between Atlantic and Arctic. This will enhance the supply chain in the Arctic region and Atlantic Canada. However, not only mega projects contribute to the economic development of Arctic Canada. Tourism is one of...
