Your textbook discusses Earthworks (or Land Art) on pages 252-253, and again on pg. 549. (Note: there are a few names for this type of sculpture: Earthworks, Land Art, and Environmental Art can all be used somewhat interchangeably. I prefer Earthworks, as does the textbook.). After reading this material and watching the videos onSpiralJettyand AndyGoldsworthy, please offer your thoughts on creating art from the land in this Discussion Board.

  1. What is your response to creating art out of the land?Think about the examples in the book: TheGreat Serpent Mound(800 BCE-100 CE) and Robert Smithson'sSpiral Jetty(1970)demonstrate that artists have been making art from the land for centuries.

  2. Shareoneexample of an Earthwork/Land art not found in the book or PPT. Search the Internet(this week, I am giving you free reign to search anywhere, but pay close attention to the definition of Earthworks - see the note below).

  3. Embed your image in your postusing theAdd Content toolandtell us about the work. Remember to provide the artist's name, title, and date of creation, along with any other information you think the class should know.

  4. If you prefer, you can create your own art out of the land--- take inspiration from AndyGoldsworthyand go outside and create art from leaves, dirt, etc. Take a photograph of your work and share it with the class. Tell us about it and your experience making it.

  5. As usual, your post should beat least 150 words.

I think creating art of land is a very creative and basically s
ignifies and symbolizes the connection of man to earth. What I found more amazing is how these timeless pieces survived the wrath of nature to reach us, thousands or maybe tens of thousands of years later. I believe something that can last this long is definitely astounding, beautiful, timeless and worth preserving. I found the geoglyphs...
