Your specific tasks are to: ● Prepare a persuasive individual oral presentation on either the development of your nursing communication and/or your academic literacies this semester. o Develop your thesis statement (outlining your argument) and the main points you will use to support your thesis statement (3-4 main points). The primary purpose will be to persuade the audience to your point of view about your reflection on your learning. In addition, you may also inform or entertain to make the presentation and your information more interesting. ● Check these planning decisions with your lecturer/tutor/peers who will provide feedback as well as give you confidence about your planning choices. ● Include a reference list of at least five academic sources. ● Identify your audience o Name the audience and the purpose of your talk before you begin the presentation. This is to help the marker determine whether the content and style of delivery is appropriate. o For example, if you are speaking about the development of your nursing communication skills your audience could be fellow nursing students, or prospective nursing students during next year’s Nursing Orientation Week or the residents of an aged care facility who want to know more about nurses’ development, etc.…..it is up to you. o If you are speaking about the development of your academic literacies your audience could be again be fellow nursing students, or prospective nursing students during next year’s Nursing Orientation Week, or a group of lecturers wanting to understand how first year students develop their learning skills, or to a conference on students’ learning, etc.…it is up to you. ● Include at least three audio-visual features in your presentation. For example: power point in your Camtasia presentation; class activities; role-plays, You Tube videos, etc. ● Pay particular attention to the Criteria Marking Sheet. Note the marks for structure. Many students ignore the structure and lose valuable marks.
