of what workstations are used for. Linux based workstation designed for graphics based tasks.
Workstation is where individuals use their productivity tasks and servers exchange data with
others over a network. Server software includes web servers like mail servers, login, time and

2. Fedora and CentOS, then it's actually very hard to compare .
3. RPM-based distribution ,difference would be the package manager. Ubuntu is based on Debian's
package . Red Hat, CentOS and Fedora are based on the old Red Hat Linux package management
system, RPM.
Red Hat- Enterprise Linux is not free, and it’s also used for business. Red Hat Linux, assembled by the
company Red Hat.
Red Hat’s Features:
•Red Hat Linux introduced a graphical installer called Anaconda.
•It uses .rpm package.
RPM Package Manager (RPM) is a powerful command line driven package management system capable
of installing, uninstalling, and verifying, querying, and updating software packages.
Ubuntu- Ubuntu is an operating system, like windows. Ubuntu is a Linux distribution •Ubuntu uses
the.deb apt package: - Ubuntu uses .deb package for package installation as like .rpm of RedHat.
•Ubuntu also uses apt-get package installer to install packages by using command mode. To install
package graphically, synaptic package manager.
•Ubuntu is Debian based.
Differences between these two distributions:
1. Ubuntu Desktop enterprise edition is free to use but Redhat is not.
2. Ubuntu focuses on Desktop users , in other hand Redhat main focus is Server platform.
3. Red Hat is made by Red Hat Inc. is founded by Young and Ewing while Ubuntu is headed by
Shuttleworth, owner of Canonical Ltd.
4. Ubuntu is based on Debian , but Redhat has nothing like this.
5. Ubuntu executable file extension is .deb , whether Redhat executable file extension is .rpm
(which means Redhat Package Manager).
Fedora Core, is an RPM-based, collection of software based on linux kernel.
All three are just as much "Linux" as the other, since they offer the Linux kernel, as well as a
slew of GNU applications.
Any one of these systems could be placed on a netbook, laptop, desktop, workstation, or server.
It all comes down to which one you have a preference over.
Fedora came out of the Redhat project. Fedora Core, is an RPM-based, general purpose
collection of software based on linux kernel.

Fedora packages are RPM format, using the YUM package manager. Arch uses pacman to
manage tar.xz packages and not support a graphical frontend.
Fedora refuses to include MP3 media support Fedora offers many installation options
including a graphical installer Arch, on the other hand, only provides a few scripts meant to
ease the process of a minimal base system install.
Fedora Core Values focus on free software, community development
Fedora has earned much community recognition for integration of SELinux, Red Hat and
thus, Fedora developers by extension, contribute the highest percentage of Linux kernel code
as compared to any other project.
Ubuntu is based on Debian, It aims to be easy for non-technical users.
OpenSuSE is again a "community" distribution out of the SuSE camp. They sell a commercial
product similar to Redhat.
All three have their own way of dealing with packages (rpms, .debs)
All three have strong community support
