Your client is a 17-year-old female who has been referred for an assessment of her alcohol and drug usage by her high school counselor. Her parents come with her to the assessment, but refuse to talk with you during the session about any of their concerns. They seem embarrassed about their daughter's behavior and say they simply want all of this put behind them" so she can resume plans for college.
1. How would you set up the session in terms of the parents and your client being present (i.e., everyone present in the room all the time; only the parents and/or daughter present at different times; alternate them all being together with the parents and/or daughter being present)?
2. How would you approach the parents and your client in order to establish a trusting relationship?
3. Who would be additional sources of information about the young woman's chemical usage that you would plan to contact?
4. Would you use a psychometric instrument and, if so, which one?
