Your assignment here is to complete the second and third main points of your outline by incorporating personal perspective and outside research from quality sources. As you probably noticed, Chapters 7 and 8 in your text provide a multitude of sources, databases, and suggestions for locating support material.These chapters also clarify what is meant by "quality" research.
Spend time carefully studying section 7.2, on
Evaluating Resources.
Ask yourself what are the 6 ways to analyze sources. You'll find them in that part of the text.
Then, begin to complete the body of your speech. Within the body, you'll want to balance:
- personal story, experience, and examples, along with
- facts, figures, statistics, reasoning, and expert testimony or quotes
Section 8.2 describes all the types of support listed above.
Study this section as you begin to investigate what are the best ways to convince your audience to do what you want them to do or why you want them to change their minds. This is the "heart" of persuasion. Use a variety of ways to "move your audience" or to "prove your point." But make sure the materials you use are "quality" and credible.
When you go to add your materials into your outline, remember we are developing oral citations. That means you do not need to concern yourself with completing a Works Cited page or Bibliography.Review Chapter 7.3 for the correct way to cite a source right inside your speech.
After finishing this week's assignment, the following sections of your outline should be done:

Persuasive Speech Purpose Statement
Serenity
The ability to remain calm, peaceful, and untroubled is a necessity that we must observe at every stage in life. Many people find it challenging to stay focused on their objectives because of unprecedented predicaments in their daily lives. In many cases, some of the pickles occur by chance while others by mistakes. What strikes the most, however, is the fact that we, more often than not, condemn things that happen to us even when we have no control over them. Dey (2016) asserts that serenity allows individuals to remain calm and to accept the things that we cannot change. Today, for instance, it is not business as usual following the novel coronavirus that continues to hit the world. COVID-19 has hit and affected both the poor and the rich in society.
These challenges have happened to us in life at one point or another, but we seem not to learn from them. The story of my uncle will change your mind to refocus on bettering your life amidst storms of life. My uncle lost his well-paying job at a turbulent time in the history of our family. His wife had miscarried the same month, plus his house bills were overdue at the same time. He did not foresee the situation coming; hence did not prepare for it. Consequently, he became depressed because he kept questioning God why life became so cruel to him. I know my uncle is not alone in this challenge.
I believe that attributing serenity as a value in our lives, relieves us from unwarranted troubles. We are all victims of stress, but the way we behave when in trouble tells a lot about our serenity. The serenity to accept what life throws at us is a critical issue today. For instance, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we must remain calm and follow the government directives to overcome it. Serenity not only encourages us to adjust our plans but also promote peaceful living. I presume that we cannot have peace within us without accepting our stressors and letting go of them.
