Actin is a protein which is essential component of the skeletal muscle. It is one of the two main types of myofilaments along with myosin that is responsible for generating force and Moveme

It is one of the two main types of myofilaments along with myosin that is responsible for generating force and Movement in the muscle fibres. Actin is arranged in thin filaments that run parallel to the length of the muscle fibre and is anchord to the Z disk that helps to stabilize the filaments. It is during the muscle contraction that the myosin that are attached to the actin forms cross bridges that pull the filaments inward and generate force. Regulation of actin through various proteins and signal in pathways is critical in terms of controlling the muscle contraction and insuring proper muscle function. The abnormalities in the structure or the function can lead to muscle disorders and the aspects such as muscular dystrophy.

It is a vital component of the muscle fibres that are responsible for the movement of the skeletal muscles.
These muscle fibres are made up of thin cells called myofibrils that contains numerous myofilaments and include actin and myosin.
