You will work to produce your own critical evaluation of a commercial product’s claim using the scientific method. For this project, investigate a consumer product of your choice (watch tv commercials for inspiration). In doing so, you will need to research the product claims by designing a controlled experiment from which you collect data to determine the accuracy of at least one of the claims. After analyzing the data you, you will write a report of your findings including information about the product, how you designed and carried out your experiment (using proper scientific terminology), presenting your data in the appropriate form (line graph, bar graph, table, pictures, etc.) and using simple statistical analysis to draw a conclusion about the product’s claim. You will submit a project proposal that must be approved as a reasonable and viable project. Once approved, you will complete your project and report your findings in a formal report and presentation including each of the following sections:

  • Introduction

  • Materials & Methods

  • Results (reporting data only, no evaluation in this section)

  • Discussion

    • Evaluation of results

    • Conclusions

Your reports will be uploaded to Canvas via TurnItIn.com. Any reports returning a similarity score >10% will automatically be given a score of 0.
