You will learn about the solar system in the next five chapters. Meanwhile, the Starry Night Enthusiast™ planetarium software can give you an introductory overview. Open the Starry Night Enthusiast™ program and select the Options tab. Check The Ecliptic box in the Guides section and the Labels box on the Planets-Moons line of the Solar System section. Stop time advance and move the scene until you are looking westward. Press the Sunset button. a. Move the sky, examine the ecliptic, and make a list of the planets that are up. b. Put the mouse over the clock and increase the time by an hour using the up arrow on your computer. Search along the ecliptic again for planets and add them to your list. c. Repeat this procedure until you have reached sunrise. d. Set the date for six months from now and repeat a–c. How do the lists compare? Explain their similarities and differences.
