Introduction
Nelson Mandela was born on the 18th of July, 1918, in the Umtata district of South Africa (Suttner, 2007). He was born in a small village named Mvezo. He had become the first black President of South Africa (Suttner, 2007).. He started his presidency from May 1994. He was considered as one of the greatest leaders of the world.
Kouzes and Posner had observed the practices which most of the greatest leaders make use of and combined them to create what they call the Five Exemplary Leadership Practices. The leaders possessing these characteristics have excelled as leaders and become extremely successful. The ideal leader would 1) Model the approach, 2) motivate a common vision, 3) remodel the development, 4) provide others with the chance to perform, 5) inspire the emotion (Suttner, 2007).
Mandela’s Works
To begin with, Mandela had paved the way. Then he formed a set of principles which were necessary to achieve the goals also how the South African people were treated. He then created the value of excellence and also started the anti-apartheid movement. Mandela always was keen in keeping people belonging to all classes together in order to fight against the apartheid regime; he also got the vision of the importance of the bureaucracy when it came in the way of his purpose. He continued to preserve the sober political conditions in Africa. One of the main features of the political condition was “the subjugation of the Black African after centuries of oppression, tyranny, and exploitation by the whites in South Africa” (Varela, 2013).
