Mao Zedong, also known as Chairman Mao, was a Chinese communist revolutionary. He was the founding father of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Some key tenets of “Mao Zedong thought” are -
1. Peasants were important - Mao Zedong believed that the peasant mass could overthrow capitalism. They are capable of forming a socialist society.
2. Ruthless Determination - Mao believed that if a man has strong will power and determination can bring significant changes (Dabphet, 2018). Strong determination can bring sufficient change if people are committed to fulfilling the objective. He believes that violence is the key element of revolution.
3. The primacy of Mao's thought - Mao Zedong is always right. If people want to find a solution to any problem, then it is the duty of the people to study his thought.
The Cultural Revolution was launched by Communist Leader Mao in 1966. The objective of this revolution was to reassert his authority over the government of China. Mao wanted to remove the capitalist and traditional elements from society. His strong ideology successfully continued to spread in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). His ideology had a huge impact on the working class of the society, especially farmers and peasants. His ideology of ruthless determination led to violent attacks on the authorities. Youth and urban workers formed a group called " Red Guards", they continued to attack local governments and established revolutionary committees after grabbing the power (Bryan, 2020).
