What is Tourism? We have to understand the meaning of it before commencing towards special interest tourism. Tourism is a term used for people who t
ravel across the world or different places with specific needs (Paulauskaite et al. 2017). They are very time-bound and item specific. It consists of varied domains such as servicing in tourism, transportation in tourism. It is solely the act of travelling for business or pleasure.
Difference between Tourist and Traveler:
There has been debates and discussion in defining the meaning of tourist and traveler. Both are almost representing the same thing but, tourist is defined as individuals who are travelling for pleasure and making their day peaceful enjoying the specified activities on the interest (Leiper, 1979). This is defined as least demandable form of travel.
Traveler on the other hand has been identified as people who travel to make memories and enjoy the raw beauty of nature. It doesn’t involve fancy stays or the class 1 amenities for the accommodation. Traveler are mainly referred to as backpackers who mostly have their all luggage on their back and carries minimal requirements for the upcoming adventure (Gössling, 2018). They roam around places to know about the people and their methods, they seek personal fulfillment, relate themselves to the nature and explore all the parts of the world.
Special interest tourism:
Special interest tourism is a specially customized tourism plan designed for specific group or individuals. Special Interest Tourism adheres to the specific plan of the individuals and provide an exemplary experience of the beauty and cleanliness of mind. This is just the opposite or counter of mass tourism where each year people go on vacation like pilgrimage places. These are often common points that people gathered for example: Kumbhmela in India. While Special interest tourism includes fun activities, leisure time, special meals and many more.
