The duality of Equiano’s identity is evident from the very tit
le of his book that sports both his names, Olaudah Equiano and Gustavus Vassa. The author seems to not want to let go of his African identity while at the same time is proud to pronounce his Christian identity as Gustavus Vassa. He continues to give glimpses of his life and the lifestyle of Africans while also creating comparative testimonies to his Christian religion and Britain (Equiano 33).
