The company selected for the study is Starbucks coffee. Starbucks is an international organization, which is associated with culturally, socially, and economic diverse countries. They desire to work with suppliers that are committed to their global principles of operation, which includes ethical consideration, protecting of environments, and respecting of human rights. They have strong suppliers code of conduct, which states that there must be demonstration of commitment towards the welfare, sustainability and economic improvement of the people and places where their services and products are produced.
They adhere to the national law as well as international standards in context of human rights, worker compensation and treatment, and workplace safety. It emphasizes on protecting the environment and minimizes the negative impact of suppliers’ operations on environment. They are committed towards monitoring, measuring, reporting, and verifying compliance of the code. They pursue continuous improvement in social and environmental principles. Suppliers’ compliance is check by the audit conducted by Starbucks or third party. Suppliers who are failed to comply according to the supplier code of conduct are terminated from the business relationship (Starbucks coffee, 2004).
