You have probably noticed that the builders of shopping malls and housing developments often use emotive language when naming their facilities. It is not uncommon to see such things as Meadowbrook Farms Shopping Plaza and Sunnydale Apartments in the most unlikely places. Even cemeteries get in on the emotive act (Riverview Memorial Gardens). Discuss as a group some of the names you have seen on housing complexes, shopping malls, and cemeteries in your hometown or college area. You might want to discuss the reason for these names and perhaps even the irony involved in their creation— how, for example, a deer hasn’t been seen alive in Deer Run Community Acres for more than twenty years.
