You can see a still from Viola’s installation called City of Man (1989), composed of three projections, at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, at www.artnet .com/Magazine/reviews/moore/moore9-29-9.asp. In this installation, the images move with speed. The three images are very diff erent and together form a triptych. Which can you interpret best? Which seems most threatening? What seems to be the vis ual message of this installation? How do you think the alternation of images on and off would aff ect your concentration on the imagery?
