You are working in community services and a client who has been smoking ice comes into the waiting room demanding that you give him immediate assistance.
The client is aggressive, extremely agitated and clearly needs some help – however, there are people who have appointments who are already waiting.
You explain that you will get someone to come and help him as soon as possible but in the meantime he should sit down, calm down and wait his turn.
The client’s behaviour escalates to the stage where you think you may be assaulted. You hit the duress alarm and other staff come to help. Luckily no one was hurt, but you are very shaken up and feel that you may not have dealt with this situation very well.
Using one of the models of professional reflection (for example, John’s model, Gibb’s model or Atkins and Murphy’s model), describe the process you would go through to reflect on your response to this incident.
a)Which model of reflection have you chosen?
