You are required to write a Pre Sentence Report (PSR) for Court for a fictional person awaiting sentence. You are to assume you are a Community Corrections Officer (CCO). Your report is required by the District Court to provide information regarding the factors associated with the person’s offending as well considerations for sentencing in accordance with theSentencing Act 1995(Western Australia), including comments as to the suitable treatment interventions if the person were sentenced to a community-based sanction or imprisoned.
In order to complete the report you will be provided with all of the relevant information you need, including; background information, details of the person’s crimes, a transcript of an interview with the person, details of the person’s personal supports, possible treatment interventions available in the community and prison and to participate in a mock follow-up interview where you will be able to ask additional questions of the offender (acted by a current Community Corrections staff member) to gauge their motivation for treatment.
This material will be made available in the assessments section of Canvas.
You will be provided with specific instruction on how to write this type of report during the semester.
The mock follow-up interview will take place inWeek 8: Thursday 18th April 2024 commencing at 16:30pmduring the scheduled seminar.
Your report will be expected to be of high quality (you are writing a (simulated) legal document for a court). You are required to provide your professional judgement and formulate a sense of the offender you are writing about. You are not simply listing facts.
Your court report must be typed using the template provided to you below.
You will be expected to support your conclusions regarding the offender withacademic references(there is no number required for this assignment, please consider 5 to 10 to support your conclusions). In-text references and an end-text reference list are required.
