You are doing research into environmentally sustainable practices (e.g. public transport
use, recycling, buying local food, or reducing energy consumption), an increasingly
important area of psychological research (Kurz, 2002). Working individually,
and based on what you’ve learned so far about qualitative research, list five reasons
why qualitative research might be useful in helping you to understand and increase
environmental sustainability. Then, in small groups, generate a list of five possible
research topics about environmentally sustainable practices that suit qualitative
research methods, and five research topics that
do not. Feed these back to the class
as a whole, and explain why they are or are not suitable for qualitative research.
