One will be used in minor amounts, both in absolute terms and as an incremental increase in global demand for the material, as an additive to a stable glass matrix, while the second will be required in large volumes, both absolute and in terms of global demand, as a coating that you anticipate will shed over time with use. Both are somewhat toxic. From an industrial ecology perspective, what sorts of questions might you ask about these materials, and how would they be different for the two materials given their profile?
