Introduction
Australian government has made several implication and it had adjoined with numerous treaties in order to promote and sustain equity among all the communities of their society. However, even after implying dynamic and variable policies and strategies the gap between indigenous communities such as Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islanders, and non-indigenous communities have widened.
One of the major factors that may have led to this gap could be the failure to implement the human rights policies or violation of various policies that may have been implemented. This article focuses upon some of the human rights policies that have been signed by Australian government and the disadvantage faced by indigenous communities due to violation or failure in implementation.
Violation of Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination
It may be necessary to consider the fact that Australian government had been reluctant with respect to providing recognition to the Indigenous rights. In other words, history have presented numerous evidences where the government may have not taken initiatives to represent these communities and human rights that could prevent their culture and allow them to be a part of the Australian society.
However, recently government may have signed treaties and policies in order to provide indigenous communities with the equity they deserve through the ‘Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination’ and ‘Racial Discrimination Act 1975’. Indigenous communities have faced enormous discrimination with respect to their orthodox beliefs as well as culture and therefore, this discrimination may have not allowed them to reach the development compared to non-indigenous communities. This treaty was supposed to provide required resources as well as opportunities to the indigenous communities.
