Writing Assignment for Unit 4 Overview: This is going to be a 5 paragraph paper. You will have an introduction paragraph, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph. The introduction and conclusion paragraphs will be written AFTER the 3 body paragraphs, but they will be attached to the 3 body paragraphs before you turn in your final. The body of your paper is going to be much like what we have already done in units 1 and 2. Each paragraph will follow the same structure: I. Topic sentence A. Major detail (example of the topic) Back it up! 3-4 sentences of support (for your major detail, explaining in detail your major detail) B. Major detail (a second example of the topic) Back it up! 3-4 sentences of support (for your major detail, explaining in detail your major detail) PROMPT: Is social media beneficial or harmful? Your paper is going to answer the question whether social media is good or whether social media is bad. You are going to brainstorm. To begin, make a list of both the benefits and detriments (harms). Then, choose a side you want to write on: Social media can be beneficial. OR Social media can be harmful. (Choose one of these for your thesis statement.) When you brainstorm, you are going to list the benefits of social media or the negative aspects of social media (depending on which side you choose) the following way. Each benefit or harmful aspect will be the topic of a PARAGRAPH. For each benefit/harm, you have to give two examples. For example: One Benefit (paragraph topic): helps with communication Now, give 2 different ways social media helps with communication (major details): 1. helps people stay in touch 2. helps people stay informed 1 For each major detail (way/example), you will need to give 3-4 sentences supporting how social media does what you said it does in your major detail. This will be your support. You need to do this with 2 more benefits. Each benefit is a paragraph.
