Introduction
    Author’s feelings as well as emotions got expression through their piece of witting. They write what they feel. Their attitude, their tone, their emotion, their beliefs is simply related with the thought about the subject of what they are writing. They express this thought, attitude, tone through their word choice, sentence structure and figurative language. This essay paper would represent the story of Eveline by James Joyce who highlight about a scared, anxious, and indecisive young woman who poised between her past and future. Through this story Joyce mainly wanted to focus on the Irish socioeconomic and cultural condition as well as oppressive lifestyle of the women under the domination of men. (Joyce, 2018).
Characteristic features of Eveline that portrays the nature of Irish society
    Eveline is a story that is being written by a renowned author James Joyce, who tried to focus on the period of Irish nationalism when anti-British sentiments were high. He tried to explain the brutal rule of the British during his period and the poor and pathetic condition of the women which influences Joyce to write this particular story and give it a recognition. The characters represented here the portrayal of the Irish middle-class in the early twentieth century. The main protagonist of the story that is Eveline, portrays the typical characteristics of twentieth century women who faces the majority of the problems that were very normal then.
During that phase when the author had written this masterpiece, the hierarchy was the organisational structure and women had an inferior value to men. They had to face different forms of oppression and were subjugated and made powerless. They had no voice to speak their own thought, to express their own emotions or even express their desires or demands. Men during that period were considered to be the most powerful creature who used to pretend that they are doing a favour towards the women by bestowing their power on them and expect that the women should remain grateful for this. Women’s perception in that society is of fragile and delicate being that needs protection and support (Sürcan, 2019).
