Theory and its Implications:
The definition of a theory is an idea to explain something, or a set of gui
ding principles. In other words, a theory is considered as a group of linked ideas that is needed to explain something. At time a theory is also defined as a guess or speculation. In broader term a theory or theories are meant to explain, predict and understand certain phenomenon based on knowledge and understanding within a determined boundary. These are also formulated to explain and challenge the existing knowledge and also evaluating the assumptions that were created earlier to replace them with facts.
Theories are based on facts, assumptions, observations and also on certain hypothesis (Chambers et al. 2018). The accuracy of a theory is analyzed before it is actually put into practice to get the benefits. Successful theories also help to formulate the framework of policies in various organizations and sectors as a whole. The same can be seen in educational sector and also in student affairs. This will be elaborated in our essay as we proceed further.
Theory or theories are essential part of student affairs as they deal with development and pedagogy of the students during the tenure of their curriculum. These are also important in student affairs as they guide and give meaning to what the students and other stakeholders see. Good theories are based on years of data collection and research and hence in a structural industry like the education industry such valid theories are essential as they define the pedagogy of the student affairs (Chambers et al. 2018). The theories also help the administrators to formulate strategies and policies for the betterment for all the stakeholders in the years to come. Theory serves as a foundation for the student affairs profession, providing a firm framework for knowledge, experience, and practise. (Chambers et al. 2018). Professionals may informally attempt to make sense of facts and phenomena in the absence of theory.
