Write down a list of points for and against using an incremental development approach for developing the following systems. (a) A web-based system that will provide on-line access to the facilities of a Bank. The Bank’s customers will be able to transfer funds between their accounts, set up and cancel instructions for standing (annual, monthly or weekly) payments and purchase services from the Bank, such as foreign currency. The Bank is concerned that its existing system is too dated, and that failure to provide an upgrade is causing it to lose customers. (b) A system for providing access to a digital library which contains a large set of digital images of specialist photographs. These will be used only within the organization, and across its internal network, so access does not need to be web-based. Important needs are for rapid delivery of digital or paper copies of images and for rapid searches of the index using a variety of search strategies. (c) A system that will be embedded in mobile telephones to provide access to ‘local’ information, which will be linked to the geographical location of the user when this is requested. Key needs are to keep the size of the system small and to provide rapid access to the information. It is intended that the phone company’s customers will be able to download the system to their phones from the company’s website.
