Introduction
Quality is basically meeting the requirement of expectation of a system, along with that service provided to customer should be free from defects and result variations. To maintain the quality of a system global stand need to follow and maintained, which also involves the safety to customer. Quality control helps in identifying the defects in a system and tries to eliminate the possibility of its occurrence. Several approaches and methods are adopted to maintain the quality of system. Quality control involves proper monitoring and verifying that the system or organization meets the defined standard sets for quality.On the other hand Quality assurance works upon finding the defects in system and prevents it before it cause damage in system. Quality assurance is proactive in nature and quality control is reactive process.
Well-defined quality systems give strength to Forensic Science Regulator (FSR) and provide addition confidence to its awarding statutory powers also implementation of assured skills to its providers and practitioners.
Importance of Quality in Forensic Science in UK
Quality Assurance (QA) depends upon the range of factors involving practices of employees, to ensure that reliability of measurement of evidences and internal and external factors which may effects quality of system. QA make sure that analytical methods and experiments are fit for use before they implement in system. Regular maintains and calibration of equipment’s is one of the critical aspects of QA followed by Standard Operating Protocol (SOP). Every staff of laboratory need to have proper training so, they are able to take critical decisions and judgment in respect to their finding.
All laboratory analytical methods assurance based upon method standardization which follows to method validation and finally accreditation from higher agency.(Levy, Bergman and Frank 1999). There should be proper measurement of traceability from the initial step, which ensures that each and every step is followed properly, documentation proof of validation data, calibrations and standard and chain of measurement of uncertainty. Forensic science laboratories have to play a significant role in providing the reliable and authentic evidences that may presented as part of criminal investigation during trails.
