Write an essay identifying and analysing a particular public health
problem in a low or middle income country. This essay will include recommendations
on culturally appropriate and tailored prevention and control strategies addressing
current challenges and issues that have made the public health condition a significant
burden.
The paper should include an analysis of the burden of disease/condition, justification
for prevention/control measures, a discussion of appropriate and effective
prevention/control measures in the chosen country.
You may nominate a specific low to middle income country (ie resource poor setting).
Specifically you are asked to provide an analytical discussion covering:
1. Introduction, disease burden and justification as to why it is an important public
health problem; and
2. Approaches to prevention and control, and explain how the magnitude of the
problem may be reduced.
Choose from any of the following five options:
• A communicable disease or a related group of communicable diseases;
• Nutritional deficiency condition;
• A non-communicable condition or related group of non-communicable conditions
• A category of Mental Health disorders; or
• A category of injury (external cause).
