Write a brief essay analyzing one of the readings in this chapter (or another selection, perhaps one by a classmate). Explain how (and perhaps, how well) the selection works as an argument speculating about causes or effects. Consider, for example, how it presents the argument fairly to help readers know the issue and enhance the writer’s credibility; uses writing strategies, such as definition, compare/contrast, example, illustration, and analogy to make a logical, well-supported argument responds to objections or alternative speculations that are fair and appropriate.
