write a 350-word reflection about overall learning experience forwriting skill especially focus on efficient planning and time management.
PART 2: Reflective Portfolio REFLECTION Analyse the task and the marking criteria from the Outline (Appendix 2 ): The purpose of this task is for you to analyse your progress and look at implications for future practice, and to promote independent learning. You will also look at the applicability of skills development across other macro skills. You need to submit a self-analysis table and reflection, documenting and commenting on the resources or activities you used to develop one of the four macro skills (listening, reading, speaking or writing). You will choose the skill and sub skill that you identified in your Hurdle Task as needing more development. The Reflective Portfolio should include a description of the four resources you have used or activities completed. Each reference or resource should be referenced using APA 7 style. For the reflection, you need to respond to a series of prompts (questions or statements that you should respond to regarding challenges or achievements) which can be found in Appendix 2 and on LEO. Your reflection should be around 350 words and should be written in two or three cohesive, grammatically accurate paragraphs. Using the prompts below as a guide, write a 350-word reflection about your overall learning experience and skills development with the language exercises and portfolio. Please write your reflection on an A4 document and format it with 12pt font and double line spacing. Please write a cohesive piece of text with complete and accurate sentences, using paragraphs as required. Prompts: · Describe what you learned about your English language proficiency skills through the process of doing the Hurdle Task. · Describe what skill and subskill you chose and why you chose it. · Evaluate your performance or progress in the chosen tasks (comment on your learning statement, skills development, what you did well and what the challenges were). · Discuss what you learned from this experience. · Explain what you have learned with this skill/subskill and how it might apply to other skills. · Discuss what you need to do in order to improve your skills further. SAMPLE REFLECTION. ANY ATTEMPTS TO COPY FROM THIS WILL BE PENALISED. Language proficiency, especially my writing of topic sentences to structure my text appropriately, has not been one of my strengths; therefore, as I stated in my Hurdle Task, I have decided to work in a more structured way to improve my writing of clear and concise topic sentences. Three specific areas were my main focus, mainly working with short clear sentences, building accurate structures and using noun collocations or phrases focused on the topic. With regards to writing short topic sentences, I managed to complete a few tasks to help me with that. Firstly, I used some handouts from my previous courses and the sample provided in week 3 of my ACOM103 unit which allowed me to revise this topic. As can be seen in the attachment, I have underlined the subjects, the verbs and the objects in these sentences to increase my awareness of the type of sentences I could write. The activity was effective although lengthy. I understood more the roles of the words used in topic sentences and the way the main ideas are built, but I spent a long time doing this activity and was unsure of the words. In the future, I might have to consult more often a good grammar book to learn more about sentences. Using a grammar book in my next activities has improved the accuracy of my sentences. I have written a few topic sentences while working with Whitby (2009) especially the chapters related to nouns, sentence building and tenses. I asked my teacher to provide feedback and it seems my sentences have improved as there were fewer corrections, which made me feel more confident in my writing. I feel that there is some progress, skills which I could use later in writing my whole text. It has been a complex and tiring activity due to the number of hours I spent with the chapters of the book, but I believe this will have a positive impact on my writing overall. Moreover, identifying what collocations were helped me become more focused on the topic of the text and avoid elementary statements, and use more complex vocabulary. I hope this will increase the quality of my writing. In the past, I used to use words like ‘something” and “so on” while now I am using noun+adjective or noun+noun structures which include all the lists of words that I used to memorise before I came to Australia. Using the grammar book to understand this aspect of the English language was a very useful activity. I think it is an activity that helps me to activate my vocabulary and make myself understood more. Besides, it could increase my overall scores in the next assessments. I believe this process of working with the topic sentences is a good way to increase the quality of my writing. Looking back I think it will not impact only the structure of my texts but also my way of addressing weaknesses in my learning. I spent some time and put some effort into completing the exercises, but seeing the results makes me think that I became better at working with small specific details of my skills. I want to use this strategy in my future learning as I can appreciate its value. References: Whitby, L. (2009). Longman Grammar-Advanced with Answers, Longman Publishing: UK. ACU. (2020).
