Reducing High Turnover 3
Building Relationships with Employees: Reducing High Turnover
Background/Organization
Kam's Elite Transportation is a family owned medical transportation business serving
elderly clients in the medical center of Houston, Texas. The company consist of fourteen
employees. It employs one owner, one receptionist, one office manager, six drivers, one
media/instructional designers/instructional technologist specialist, two billing agents and two
customer service agents. Kam's Elite has been around for four years. It started as a company
of three employees and now it employs 14 with a net profit of 200,000 dollars per year. The
company has held a strong place in communities by being able to provide more than just a
ride but companionship, a wide selection of listening music, knowledgeable drivers of the
Houston area, speedy but safe driving service, and excellent customer service. The company
is doing so well just from word of mouth that they have decided they want to expand the
company. They have a plan to extend their services to Clearlake, Texas City, Sugarland,
Alvin, and other surrounding areas that need transportation to the medical center. Despite all
the good will the company is experiencing, there is something going terribly wrong within
the business.
Situation/Problem Summary
The company has a very high rate of employee turnover and this needs to be
addressed before the company tries to expand outside of the Houston area. Of the 14
employees, only two members have been with the company since it first started: the owner
and the office manager. All the other employees have been employed less than three months.
In the past two years, it seems the company cannot keep a decent employee for more than
three months. Prior employees have addressed in their exit interviews problems with
leadership, unclear of job duties, low pay rate compared to their competitors, lack of
appreciation and, lack of communication between employees and the office manager.
Company management has become use to having employees leave every other month. The
owner recently retained the service of an instructional technologist specialist to help the
company find out what is the problem with the high rate of employee turnover. Even though
Kam's Elite Transportation is making good profits they want to make sure their employees
stay with the company because it is costing them 20,000 dollars a year to train new
employees, provide uniforms, employee benefits, and company leadership wants to keep
good people as they expand.
Organizational/Environmental Analyses
[The overview/introduction of your organizational and environmental analyses goes here.
It should not exceed two full paragraphs and one paragraph should be sufficient in most cases.
The length of the entire Organizational/Environmental Analyses section will vary greatly
according to the organization’s size and complexity. At a bare minimum, this portion of the
