Working as an Enrolled nurse, you need to recognise and respect diversity and understand that everyone must be treated with courtesy and respect regardless of their race, religion, gender, beliefs or culture. You need to recognise and understand different cultures and how cultural differences can affect your work.

In this assessment activity you are to examine your personal experiences of working with culturally diverse groups of people and to reflect on your own social and cultural bias.

To do this use the Reflective cycle attached and follow these steps.

1. Description

Think of a recent incident where you were working with a socially and/or culturally diverse person or group of people. It would be great if it was an Aboriginal person. This may have been at your work place or while communicating with a fellow Holmesglen student. What happened?  2. Feelings

What did you already know about the background of this person or group of people? What did you think and feel at the time?  3. Evaluation.

Were these good or bad thoughts and feelings? Why?  4. Analysis.

Were these thoughts and feelings realistic? On what do you base this opinion? Do you think you could have reacted in another way?  5. Conclusion

What do you conclude about this situation and your reaction to it?  6. Action

If it happened again, what might you do differently? Why?  This assessment will be commenced in a tutorial class on the 30/03/17 and must be submitted to the submission folder on Bright space by 18/04/17.

You are not required to reference this assessment however it should be written in academic format. The final result will be a Px.

The word count is approximately 500 words
