To develop your skills in researching, and critically apply academic sources in respect to your chosen social media subject. In doing
so you will also critically evaluate a person’s
public social media account in terms of how well it represents a subject position.
Details of task:
In this unit, we are researching and writing for a fictional social media subject. B
efore we make up our own, we’ll critically evaluate a social
media account that already exists.
Choose a public social media account, not your own, that you think represents one of the following social media
subjects
: the influencer, the creative, the activist, the journalist, the fan, or the troll. (Many social media accounts actually occupy more than one subject position
–
there are creative activists, fan journalists, etc. But for the purpose of this assignment, stick with just one subject).
Using one (1) source from the reading list or starter pack, and two (2) academic sources that are not in the reading list or starter pack, critically evaluate how well this social media account exemplifies their subject position, using the provided template.
Include the person’s name, platform, username, and subject position; your research about that subject; how your chosen accoun
t fits the subject position; and illustrate this by providing three of their social media posts.
Reference the sources you use, including the social media posts.
