SECTION A Task Brief 2 Module Title: Strategic Resort Hotel Management Assessment Title: New strategy for (*) resort * this will be based on the seminar group case study Individual/Group: Individual Weighting: 60% Submission Date: 27/03/17 Instructions To Students For Submission Of This Coursework Task Details Having completed an assessment of the current position of your chosen resort, you are now required to present a strategic plan for the business, for the next three years. Your plan needs to cover the strategic areas that you examined through your management video and also incorporate the themes you covered in your second block week: measuring performance, spas, managing the guest experience as well as CSR. All these should be taken into consideration when applying the strategic theory taught in the first block week. Particular instructions to students The word count for this assignment is 3,000 words (+/- 10%), excluding references, appendices, tables, charts and graphs. You should use report structure, with cover page, abstract/ executive summary, contents page, introduction, chapters/ main body of the report, conclusion and recommendations, reference list and appendices, as well as page numbers. You are encouraged to use pictures, graphs and charts as this is a report and it should be welcoming and interesting to read. Submission requirements You will submit your work via Blackboard, through the Assessment part of the module site. A turnitin point will be set up for your convenience within the same part of the module site - you are strongly encouraged to use it in order to ensure the originality of your work. Your report should be in a .doc file. Indicative contents Executive summary Contents page 1. Introduction (The introduction should briefly identify the issues that were raised in Task 1 (use your conclusion). The introduction should also outline the structure of the report. 2. TOWS Matrix (What are the threats, weaknesses and opportunities that need to be addressed? How do the strengths and opportunities inform and support your recommendations?). What are your recommendations (based on literature - use sources to underpin your suggestions). 3. VRIN analysis (Does the resort have a USP? What is it? Is it sustainable? What is your recommendation on this aspect?). You need to identify what the USP is. 4. Life Cycle (Where on the life cycle is currently the resort? why? What would be the strategy to extent its life? again your suggestions and recommendations should be underpinned by theory. 5. Strategy (What is the current strategy used? Is it correct? if not, why? Which strategy should they adopt now?). Suggestions and recommendations should be underpinned by theory. 6. CSR (Is the resort CSR strategy adequate? if not, why? Can they do more? what will they gain?). Suggestions and recommendations should be underpinned by theory. 7. Performance (Use data from the annual reports or other financial information to compare and produce meaningful indicators/ metrics, related to performance. These can be qualitative (tripadvisor comments for example) or quantitative (occupancy rates, etc)). One or two examples are enough for this part. 8. Spa Management (Does the resort have a spa? What is the theme/ concept? Is it appropriate for the particular resort? if not why? What is your assessment of it? (examine the menus). Are there any recommendations? Is there anything you would improve? Look at trends (passport, Mintel, etc.). Suggestions and recommendations should be underpinned by theory. 9. Customer Experience Management (What is Pine and Gilmore's model on experience management? Use Pine and Gilmore's model and apply it to your chosen resort. Does your resort satisfy all four aspects of the model? If not why? What are your recommendations so that it does? Suggestions and recommendations should be underpinned by theory. 10. Conclusion and recommendations (What is the overall conclusion? What is your chosen strategy and how does it reflect all of the above analysis? Does the USP you identified play of focal role in this strategy? List your recommendations - you can use bullet points here. Reflect on the fact that this is a short term strategic plan - three years. You should explain how these recommendations would be introduced over three years and what is the aim? Where is the resort heading and where will it be after three years based on your recommendations? Reference List Appendices (if any) Remember that your answers and work should take into consideration the comments and feedback that was provided to you for Task 1.
