Introduction
Safe practice
s and standard quality of healthcare services are provided in care organisations by healthcare professionals only. However, the differences in the patient outcomes are the attributes of differences in the way these services are provided to them. Therefore, it is the initiative of the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care to eliminate these differences in nursing practices so that the optimal outcomes to the patients cannot be disregarded. For that purpose, they have developed eight National Safety & Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, three of which have been chosen to be analysed in this essay.
National Safety & Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care mainly aims to establish high quality and safe practices in the healthcare sector. According to Carayon et al. (2014), these parameters of care services are important because these not only help the patients to attain well-being or standard status of health sooner, but also eliminate the differences in their outcomes from one another. Hence, eight NSQHS standards have been established by them that inform the care professionals and nurses to adopt such practices, which can meet these purposes, easily.
The eight standards, requiring strict compliance by the carers, are clinical governance, blood management, medication safety; partnering with consumers, communicating for safety, comprehensive care, preventing and regulating healthcare-associated infection as well as recognising, along with responding to acute deterioration (Safety and Quality, 2017). Out of these eight standards, the chosen three are the standards for communicating for safety, blood management, preventing and controlling infection related to healthcare. These three have been chosen particularly because these three are most applicable ones and are needed to be applied to any situation, irrespective of the nature of diseases. The present essay relates them to nursing practices, and informs about their significance, so that the nurses could be aware of the safety as well as quality frameworks regulating or administering their practices.
Preventing and Controlling Healthcare-Associated Infection Standard
The occurrence of infection within the care organisations is a common scenario, due to the presence of a huge microflora in the environment. Patients with communicable and infectious diseases visit for availing healthcare services to the organisations, where nurses as well as care professionals are entitled to be in direct contact with them. As a result, due to attending multiple patients simultaneously and being exposed to infection for a prolonged period, infection associated to healthcare practices has become a growing concern (Russo et al. 2018).
Therefore, in order to evade this problem and control its spread to the other patients, service users or care personnel, the NSQHS Standard for preventing as well as controlling these infections is important to nursing practice. The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care has always aimed to provide high quality care services to the service seeker of Australia. However, when an organisation is found to avoid the usage of safety measures that control the spread of infection, then the standard of the care quality deteriorates automatically. As...
