Within public health, obesity generally considered to be health crises, foreshadowing an ever-increasing burden of disease into the future. A minority, but extremely contrary view, is advanced elsewhere: that the obesity crisis is in fact a form of moral panic, and that greater societal “fat acceptance” is required. In this assessment, students will engage with the “other side”—the so-called fat-o-sphere—providing an analysis of the arguments, concepts, beliefs and evidence that underpin this movement.
