Widely used antidepressants may reduce ominous brain plaques associated with Alzheimer’s disease. In the study, mice genetically engineered to have large amounts of brain plaque were given a class of antidepressants that boost serotonin in the brain. After a single dose, the plaque levels dropped, and after four months, the mice had about half the brain plaques as the mice that didn’t take the drug.
