Why are heat sources at high temperatures more useful than those at low
temperatures?
A geothermal plant (such as the Geysers in California—see Chapter 18, Section
D) uses steam produced underground. Th e steam enters a turbine at a high temperature and pressure, emerging at a pressure below atmospheric pressure. Why is a
condenser needed in this plant?
