Who was the audience? Consider how communicating to the particular audience (such as a friend rather than a teacher, or a group of your peers rather than a gathering of their parents) shaped the argument. How much did the audience already know about the topic, and had they already taken their own position? Did you or the author choose particular details or evidence because you knew it would be convincing to your audience? How was the tone tailored to appeal to them — informal, perhaps, for friends, more formal for parents or teachers?
