While Democrats and Republicans are overwhelmingly the dominant parties in the United States, there are many other parties. In the 2004 election, the Constitution Party, the Green Party, and the Libertarian Party all had ballot status for its presidential candidate in states with enough electoral votes to have a theoretical chance of winning. Counting state and local parties, there are more than 60 political parties in the United States including the Alaskan Independence Party, the Aloha Aina Party, the American Nazi Party, the Communist Party, the Marijuana Reform Party, the Prohibition Party, and the World Socialist Party.
