While college and university student affairs professionals usually take an introductory counseling course and perhaps a few other counseling-related courses, the curriculum for student affairs or higher education master’s degrees is strongly oriented toward college student development theories, understanding colleges and university settings, providing psychoeducational experience for students, preparing students for leadership positions, and performing administrative tasks.
