The following paragraphs describe a series of hypothetical experiments, each of which involves one or more design flaws that were discussed in your textbook. Read the descriptions carefully, and identify the flaw(s).


A psychologist is trying to figure out whether males or females know more about political issues. The psychologist interviews people on the street, asking them a series of questions. When he is done, he discovers that men know more about politics than women do.
But, What Went Wrong?



A researcher wants to discover if people can read her mind. Her procedure is as follows: She carefully shuffles a deck of cards and then looks at the top card. She nods to the subject across from her and tells her/him to try to guess what suit it is. The odds are that the subject should guess only 25% correctly, but the subjects consistently do better.
