What type of learner are you? There has been much debate over the merits of discovery learning, in which students are encouraged to explore their environment and construct facts and theories for themselves, versus the merits of reception learning, in which concepts are formally presented to them. Research indicates that children who are extraverts learn best in a situation that emphasizes discovery and children who are introverts profit more from the traditional receptive approach. Categorize yourself according to Eysenck’s four dimensions in Figure 12.2.
