Working Memory
Working memory is termed as the limited-capacity part of the human memory system, which combines the temporary storage and manipulation of information in the service of the cognition short-term memory. It is considered as the component of working memory as it refers to the storage of information without manipulation whereas long-term memory is termed as the separate part of the memory system having a vast storage capacity that holds information in relatively more stable form. That is why working memory is considered different from long-term memory. The working memory concept is considered impactful in several areas of application that includes neuropsychology, individual differences in cognition, neuro-imaging and normal and abnormal child development. The multi component model of the working memory states that it includes an executive controller that interacts with separate short-term stores for auditory verbal and visuospatial information (Engle, 2018).
The application of the working memory is experienced most probably in referring to a limited capacity system, which is authenticated and capable of briefly storing the information and manipulating information involved in the performance of very complex cognitive tasks that includes comprehension, reasoning and several other types of learning. As per the carrying of the work, the working memory differs a lot from the short-term memory as in that it assumes both the manipulation and storage of information as well as in the emphasis on its functional role in complex cognition. For studying, the working memory various approaches have been taken into account that eventually depends upon the interest of the several researchers. It completely depends upon the preference of the researcher whether they choose neurobiological, neuropsychological, psychometric or oriented towards providing practical guidance on human factors.
