What is Race? What is Racism? Racism operates within a set of premises embedded in a hierarchical construction of power. In his article, “The Coloniality of Power and Eurocentrism in Latin America,” Peruvian sociologist Anibal Quijano describes the former (coloniality of power) as a concept rooted in Eurocentric epistemology and modern thinking. What is the connection between race and the conquest of the Americas? How would the coloniality of power be connected to systemic racism?
