In American Bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) males could be considered reproductively
mature in 1-2 years while, females in 2-3 years. After getting matured, males can set up a
territory and could make an advertisement call (via vocal cords) which may be heard via females
and these are females who choose their mating partner ultimately. (Stebbins and Robert, 2003)
Though, there is nothing very specific in bullfrog in terms of reproductive organs as;
male’s reproductive system consists of testes (for the production of sperms) the urine ducts (to
carry urine and sperms to the cloaca), and the cloaca (from where sperms and urine may exit the
body). On the other hand, ovaries (for the production of eggs and storage of them) and the
oviducts (tubes via which ova can reach up to uterus/outside from ovary) are the reproductive
organs present in females. (Bartlett and Patricia, 2009)
But, the way of reproduction in frog might be termed unique as; male collapses on top
of the female and wraps its arms around her abdomen. For the purpose, he develops bumps on its
