3. The essay is worth
100 points.
4. Thesis statements will be uploaded in Canvas like Weekly Responses for review and are worth
25 points.
5. Essays will be uploaded in Canvas and will be checked for plagiarism.
6.
Late thesis statements will be reviewed, and suggestions given but will receive a grade of ZERO.
7.
A Late essay submission will have a 10-point deduction for every day it is late.
8.
Submissions must be uploaded as a Word file.

Final Essay Requirements
· The Final essay may be written about one of the religious traditions we have studied or it can also be a comparative study of any 2 traditions.
· Students will take an idea that is presented in any chapter(s) of Prothero and present a well-written, thoughtful response to it. (Assigned readings can be included for context and argument but not be the focus of the essay)
· The goal of the essay is to help students read the text critically through reflection on a single question or issue.
· The topic of the essay is entirely up to the student’s discretion.
· The fundamental requirement of the essay is that it must contain an underlined thesis statement that the student defends with a rational and coherent argument.
· The essay is a formal paper and should not contain personal anecdotes or unsupported opinion.
· Essay must be free of faith claims

The thesis statement must be underlined, and a word count must be included
·
The essay must be between 350-400 words;
· The essay must be free of spelling and grammatical errors.
· In addition to an exercise in close reading, the essay is also a writing exercise that emphasizes clarity and concision.
· Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in deducted points
