Week 9 SPSS Discussion Instructions Here we discuss the Two-Way Anova, Main Effects, and Interaction Effects. This will be a detailed discussion worth 15 points so plan accordingly.  Image by Ulrike Leone from Pixabay Preparation: To prepare for this discussion, please follow along with our ScreenCast videos 14.8.1 and 14.8.2 to make sure you can generate all of the required results. Required SPSS Videos 1. Stats 3e Screencast 14.8.1 (click here) 2. Stats 3e Screencast 14.8.2 (click here) 3. Conducting a 2 Way Anova in SPSS (Dr. Todd Grande, click here) 4. How to Interpret the Results of A Two Way ANOVA (Factorial) (click here) 4. How to Calculate a Two Way ANOVA using SPSS (click here) Mini-Report General Guidance Welcome to our fourth mini-report. Key new features for this report include: · Analyzing the “main effects” and “Interaction effect” of a Two-Way Anova · Note the measures of effect size and statistical power which come with the output tables. Where are these values and what do they mean? As a reminder, the point of a mini-report assignment is to link all of the various parts of research with the week’s statistical analysis methodology. To make this link, we will again start by creating the question and phrasing it as a testable hypothesis which will fit the Two-Way Anova, generating the results, sharing those results in APA format, and explaining what those results mean for the study hypotheses and research question.  Many people only understand these elements in isolation, but your job is to see how they match and relate. The more you practice in the way required in these reports, the more you will see how to apply and interpret statistics in the future. We present these mini-reports as a discussion so everybody will be able to see multiple examples and therefore have a better idea of how to run statistical tests and write up the results.  If you are stumped on how to write your post, look at what others have written but change the example hypothesis and data to a scenario which interests you. This will help accomplish our course themes/goals of 1) asking and answering questions with statistics, 2) telling stories with data, and 3) choosing the correct statistical test. Mini-Report Instructions To complete this assignment, please create a scenario that would require the use of a Two-Way Anova – pick the 2x2 design which means that each independent ariable has ONLY 2 levels, not any more than that., write your research question and matching hypothesis, generate fake/mock data, enter that correctly into SPSS, calculate and explain your results.  It would be best to write your replies in MS word, save them, and paste them into this discussion so you don't lose any work. The sections of this mini-report are 1. Title 2. (2 points) Brief introduction to the scenario (explain what you are comparing, what the variables are and what your null and alternative hypotheses are. 1. List the FIRST independent variable’s name ____ how many levels it has _____ and what those levels are ______. See this link if you are stumped. https://www.statisticshowto.datasciencecentral.com/probability-and-statistics/hypothesis-testing/anova/ 1. Provide an operational definition for the independent variable (yes, even categorical independent variables need operational definitions). 2. List the SECOND independent variable’s name ____ how many levels it has _____ and what those levels are ______. See this link if you are stumped. https://www.statisticshowto.datasciencecentral.com/probability-and-statistics/hypothesis-testing/anova/ 1. Provide an operational definition for the independent variable (yes, even categorical independent variables need operational definitions). 3. List the dependent variable’s name and its operational definition_____. Is this an interval or ratio scale measurement? 3. (3 pts) Brief explanation of the methods 1. explain the sample size, sampling method, and measurement methods you might use to have collected the mock data for your study.  Use about 20-30 data points per group. 2. explain the descriptive statistics and charts which you might use to first analyze the data and check the sample for outliers and normality 3. list your choice of alpha level and explain that choice.  Will you use the standard p<.05 level or a different criterion and why? 4. we will not use post-hoc tests because your example should only be comparing between 2 levels per variable. 6. (3 pts) results [ review: conducting a 2 way anova in spss (dr. todd grande, click here) ] 5. list the descriptive statistics for your data.  list any charts which accompany them. 6. paste in the anova results table for your data 7. report the descriptive statistics (means and standard deviations) and 8. report the inferential statistics (two-way anova results) in apa format https://statistics.laerd.com/spss-tutorials/two-way-anova-using-spss-statistics-2.php 1. main effect 1 2. main effect 2 3. interaction effect. 9. explain whether or not you rejected the null hypothesis for each of the main effects and the interaction effect and why 10. make sure to request and report the effect sizes of partial eta squared. report these for each main or interaction effect only if the effect is significant. 1. (2 pts) interpretation 1. write a brief description of your results and what it means about your research question.  was there a difference between the means you looked at and what would that tell you about the primary research question?  interpret the effect size measures.  end with the final take home message about what your study shows and comment about what you learned or what you have questions about based on this assignment. 2. references (if any) 3. please also attach your spss viewer file and spss data file with your post using the attachment button (the paperclip) from the discussion editor menu. 4. your questions, comments, and replies to classmates are worth the other 5 points in this forum. this discussion is worth 15 points.  the main post should be at least 500 words and please reply to at least 1 classmate. help each other out as much as possible. level="" or="" a="" different="" criterion="" and="" why?="" 4.="" we="" will="" not="" use="" post-hoc="" tests="" because="" your="" example="" should="" only="" be="" comparing="" between="" 2="" levels="" per="" variable.="" 6.="" (3="" pts)="" results="" [="" review:="" conducting="" a="" 2="" way="" anova="" in="" spss="" (dr.="" todd="" grande,="" click="" here)="" ]="" 5.="" list="" the="" descriptive="" statistics="" for="" your="" data. ="" list="" any="" charts="" which="" accompany="" them.="" 6.="" paste="" in="" the="" anova="" results="" table="" for="" your="" data="" 7.="" report="" the="" descriptive="" statistics="" (means="" and="" standard="" deviations)="" and="" 8.="" report="" the="" inferential="" statistics="" (two-way="" anova="" results)="" in="" apa="" format="" https://statistics.laerd.com/spss-tutorials/two-way-anova-using-spss-statistics-2.php="" 1.="" main="" effect="" 1="" 2.="" main="" effect="" 2="" 3.="" interaction="" effect.="" 9.="" explain="" whether="" or="" not="" you="" rejected="" the="" null="" hypothesis="" for="" each="" of="" the="" main="" effects="" and="" the="" interaction="" effect="" and="" why="" 10.="" make="" sure="" to="" request="" and="" report="" the="" effect="" sizes="" of="" partial="" eta="" squared.="" report="" these="" for="" each="" main="" or="" interaction="" effect="" only="" if="" the="" effect="" is="" significant.="" 1.="" (2="" pts)="" interpretation="" 1.="" write="" a="" brief="" description="" of="" your="" results="" and="" what="" it="" means="" about="" your="" research="" question. ="" was="" there="" a="" difference="" between="" the="" means="" you="" looked="" at="" and="" what="" would="" that="" tell="" you="" about="" the="" primary="" research="" question? ="" interpret="" the="" effect="" size="" measures. ="" end="" with="" the="" final="" take="" home="" message="" about="" what="" your="" study="" shows="" and="" comment="" about="" what="" you="" learned="" or="" what="" you="" have="" questions="" about="" based="" on="" this="" assignment.="" 2.="" references="" (if="" any)="" 3.="" please="" also="" attach="" your="" spss="" viewer="" file="" and="" spss="" data="" file="" with="" your="" post="" using="" the="" attachment="" button="" (the="" paperclip)="" from="" the="" discussion="" editor="" menu.="" 4.="" your="" questions,="" comments,="" and="" replies="" to="" classmates="" are="" worth="" the="" other="" 5="" points="" in="" this="" forum.="" this="" discussion="" is="" worth="" 15="" points. ="" the="" main="" post="" should="" be="" at="" least="" 500="" words="" and="" please="" reply="" to="" at="" least="" 1="" classmate.="" help="" each="" other="" out="" as="" much="" as="">
