We have not finalized the roof design yet, so it might act as a flexible diaphragm. If we assume it is a flexible diaphragm, our task is to find the effects of the in plane forces. The team leader wants us to use full-depth collectors. a. Guess which will experience the largest axial connection force: full-depth collectors or chords. b. Based on full-depth collectors, generate the axial force diagram for each column line with a lateral element. Label the axial force that each collector connection must carry on a plan view of the diaphragm. c. Using the Equivalent Beam Model, predict the peak moment generated in each segment of the roof diaphragm. d. Based on full-depth collectors, calculate the chord forces needed to carry the in plane moment. Label the axial force that each chord connection must carry on a plan view of the diaphragm. e. Comment on why your guess in part (a) was or was not correct when compared with your results in parts (b) and (d).
