Task instructions
The purpose of this assessment is to enable students to use leadership techniques and strategiesto enable you to demonstrate a good command of the theories and principles of leading and managing an effective work team.
This assessment task two will cover knowledge taught in week five to fourteen. By completing this assessment, you will be equipped with the basic knowledge and skills to tackle more complex and real-life leadership scenarios.
This assessment task is one of two assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this course.
There are 12short answer questions that relate to content covered in week 6 to 13.

The prosperity and downfall of an organisation, largely depends upon the decision making ability of the management. Interestingly, decision making ability happens to be the basic role that a management needs to perform, thereby, contributing towards the organisational success and failure. In this context, Collier (2015)has stated that a manager is entrusted with the responsibility to make vital decisions for the groups in the organisation, who play a major role in the planning process. Planning is considered to be the most significant role to be performed by the management that decides the course of other actions and functions that involve human resource management, organising, managing, controlling and others. In a group, different individuals come up with their independent insights and opinions that may at times, lead to conflicts. In such instances, it is the responsibility of the manager to extract the best possible solution and meet an end that is beneficial to all. In a group discussion and decision making process, the manager assumes the role of a leader, directing the course of the discussion and taking necessary decisions. It is interesting to note that good decision making ability of manager tend to influence the group morale. The manager acquires the ability to make good decisions for the group, in specific and organisation, at large by constant training process and developing skills.According to Rao and Tilt (2016), a manager is assigned with the task to set the target for the groups, enlists the options that are required to be fulfilled and finally, implement the final decision. The effective communication with all the members of the group is established by the manager.

Furthermore, the managers lay an emphasis on fostering the spirits of the group members that help them to establish a stronger bond among themselves. As a result, a strong relationship and cooperation is developed not just between the manager and other team members but among the team members, themselves.
